Architect studio Bonnard & Woeffray has created an imaginative apartment, as an extension to a thriving restaurant, at odds yet complimentary to its mountain surroundings in the Swiss town of Champery. Not far from the station the illuminated black and orange facade of the building, faceted with mirrored walls, is instantly noticeable through the snow flurries

  • The design of this contemporary apartment reflects the architectural practice of the 1960s

  • A feature of the double-height open plan living area is the eye-catching lime green lacquered panelling

  • The walls of the living room are painted matt black, highlighted with a lime green lacquer, and instead of the traditional wood-burning stove, a minimal ethanol fireplace is suspended on the wall like a contemporary artwork
    + Lightbox
  • Pine-clad pillars in the double-height living area have been designed to resemble tree trunks and change the rhythm of the interior space
    + Lightbox
  • The pine table in the dining area is set at an angle beneath the lime green lacquered panelling of the mezzanine
    + Lightbox
  • The kitchen has been conceived as a box beneath the mezzanine floor, with reflecting black and lime green thermo-lacquered walls and ceiling
    + Lightbox
  • Horizontal window slits open the back wall of the kitchen to the adjacent dining area
    + Lightbox
  • A neon ceiling light is reflected in the black lacquered kitchen worktop

  • Plexiglas cupboards on the concrete staircase announce a change in colour scheme, while the matt black wall has been covered in a hand-painted wallpaper with bold motifs
    + Lightbox
  • On the mezzanine floor the 3-dimensional effect of the wood cladding on the pine roof supports is more in evidence
    + Lightbox
  • The detail on the cladding of the roof supports echoes the growth circles of a tree trunk
    + Lightbox
  • Intimacy has been introduced into the bedroom on the mezzanine by significantly lowering the ceiling
    + Lightbox
  • Opaque plexiglass incorporated around the mezzanine level ensures privacy in the bathroom and bedroom
